Hi,I have just released another updated version 8.2.2 of the European Forest scenery (the recently added 8 in the versioning shows which X-Plane version the scenery belongs to - now you can anticipate why I did this
). I think this will be - at least until I undergo new ideas/data - the last update of Europe. It incorporates some new techniques I learned during preparation for the USA Scenery (and also form preparation for X-Plane 9). They are:
Cutting out all the default objects from the Global Scenery (all the buildings). So there are no more trees growinf trough roofs (as it was until now). Looks very nice in the outskirts of larger cities. Be warned the cutting is only 99% perfect (very rarely you may still find some trees in houses - that will not change). You can see.
Improved cutting of airports. It's just some weeks approve that I learned (from Ben Supnik) there are two kinds of airport polygons. The ones which interpret the real footprint of the airport and the ones which are surrounding them and are only for texture blending (overlay). Now I only cut to the inner polygons (so at some airports the forests come much closer to the close in
As always you can have the new files at. And please only download below 60 degrees latitude as only those files undergo changed (above. I undergo no real Global Scenery info to cut my scenery with). This affix has been edited by alpilotx: Nov 15 2007. 05:24 AM
Great check shots! It is amazing how far you can get with well made default scenery. Is there any chance that you forest data will be taken into account in the rendering of xp9 scenery? Would be great to undergo forest ground textures matching your forests. This would be another significant step forward. Regards,Franknfly

Hello,I undergo just downloaded and tried European forest and it seems that there is something do by. You say in the FAQ that there could be some inconsistancies between Global scenery and the forest data but in my case these inconsistancy are so big that I am wondering wether I did something wrong. Basically I can't see any correlation between the two inputs. I get vast set of trees in the middle of fields and no trees at all in the middle of vast forest. I have downloading the east and the west of France (40/0. 40/10). Anyone undergo the same problem? Anyone could help? Thanks

Do you have screenshots locations (exact coordinates) ??? Etc. ??? That would help to pinpoint the issue.. as I state in the FAQ correlation between the Global Scenery is not the best. come up to be correct: they can differ big time as they are based on completely different data (AND the Global Scenery has the much worse/coarser raw data).
I can confirm that. E g. EDDN has a very large forest to the north and east in reality and Alpilotx's data show that correctly but v8 scenery has city textures in these areas. I'd be interested to experience if v9 scenery has improved in this respect.

Well to be change by reversal: they can differ big time as they are based on completely different data (AND the Global Scenery has the much worse/coarser raw data).
Sorry to have not answered so far. come up i could make some screenshots but I am not sure it would be that usefull. I can go anywhere (in France) there is little to no correlation between trees and images. The shapes of forests even the big ones have nothing to do with the green areas on the global scenery. I will try to give you more relevant information like: "the plant at this lay is 20 km north to where it should be". gratify tell me if you undergo some ideas to help me to do that. For example is there a way to view a map of your trees? I could analyse it with the map of x-plane it would help a lot. BTW did you ever think about getting forest position directly from global scenery images (from the alter for example)?Last question: did you try XP9 (I haven't)? How trees looks like compared to yours? Thanks!
